The brief was for a low budget guest retreat.
The design was based on sustainable living and the location overlooking a valley at the edge of a 20m high cliff that drops to a creek. The guest retreat ended up as a studio with one bathroom and a verandah. The cooking facilities would stay in the existing house. The verandah cantilevers just over the edge which gice a great and relaxing aspect while overlooking the creek below and the valley beyond. The main room has been organised in such a way that even a family with three kids can all sleep there and still have a sense of privacy. There are sight lines to the surrounding nature from every place in the house. You can expect to see a kangaroo while in the shower or see an eagle while lying in bed.
The materials used were sustainable, durable and easy to handle. This ensured a relatively quick building process and little maintenance to save costs.
